TakeIndiaHome started in 2016 for artists and craftsmen to showcase their talent on a worldwide platform. TakeIndiaHome does all the backend work for hardworking home entrepreneurs struggling to make a dent in this field, thereby allowing them to focus on the creation of products.
When the founder, Chirag Gupta, wanted to gift his family something unique and different, he stumbled upon various artists and groups creating beautiful, handmade products. Spell-bound by what he saw, he proceeded to buy the handcrafted gifts but felt let down by the logistics charges for a single transaction. Inspired by the art and quality of goods available out there, he saw scope for development in the operations and marketing space. He spearheaded the company, taking charge of IT, Vendor Development, Marketing and Finance. Soon, the team started expanding and now consists of two others- Gaurav Sharma, who takes care of backend logistics operations and Palak, who is responsible for research on the art and crafts of India and making few in-house products.
TakeIndiaHome is a marketplace where handmade products can be bought or sold with ease. It gives an opportunity to the artist to showcase his/her work and gives wings to their passion. What makes TakeIndiaHome stand out from the rest of the marketplaces in the country? “We are different from others because we make online selling very easy for the artists. Once they create an account with us, we take care of everything that follows, be it uploading of products or updating their descriptions. Our charges are one of the lowest in the industry as our aim is to promote the art and handmade products at competitive prices. We have a growing community of 85 homepreneurs and artisans, growing on a daily basis”, says Chirag.
The term ‘handcrafted’ includes a gamut of products. Chirag tells us what we can expect to buy from TakeIndiaHome, “Handmade products include delicious regional delicacies, local spices, handloom, soaps, wooden items, stone work, jute work, paper products, pottery and terracotta products, jewelry, paintings, toys, candles and much more. The Indian Government is supportive of this industry; the subsidies and relaxations in terms of taxes are helping the industry flourish again”.
Since TakeIndiaHome is currently only an online platform, the team faced their share of challenges in the beginning of their journey and they consider themselves fortunate to have a swift learning curve. “The major challenge is to establish trust in our vendors and customers that they will not be cheated and will get genuine products. We overcame that by tying up with the best companies in the country as our logistic and payment partners. Another major challenge is the quality of photographs which we receive from vendors. We guide them to click pictures in a particular way, but invariably end up editing them. This takes a lot of time and is an area of concern”, says Chirag.
Apart from the plans of opening a retail store this year, they are also in talks with few NGOs and will be working towards the upliftment of women by selling their handmade products through the platform. They are also partnering with few sellers to create their own brand of products with TakeIndiaHome themes. Here’s wishing the team all the success in spreading smiles all through the country!
